Terms of Use

These Terms of Use apply to Sonoma County Residents Directory. By accessing or using the pages, you agree to these terms. Do not use the service if you do not accept them.

1. The Nature of This Reference

Sonoma County Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections concerning people who live or have lived in Sonoma County, California. It links to custodians and research tools, but it does not host government records and is not affiliated with any office, court, library, or records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the pages and any information reached through them only for a lawful purpose. You may not use the service to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
  • Locate a person protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, or impersonation
  • Make a decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Disrupt the site's operation, security, or availability

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

Sonoma County Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither the material on these pages nor a result returned by a linked search tool is a consumer report. It may not be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.

4. External Portals and Services

Government portals, library collections, archives, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Sonoma County Residents Directory does not control and is not responsible for their content, availability, pricing, security, or data practices.

5. No Warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that a statement is accurate, complete, or current, or that an external portal will remain available or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of these pages or a linked resource, including a decision made from a record found through them.

7. Your Indemnification Obligation

You agree to indemnify and hold the operators harmless from a claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from your misuse of the service or breach of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original wording, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. You may link to a page and quote a brief excerpt with attribution. Republishing full pages or copying the material systematically is not permitted.

9. Changes to the Terms

A revised version may be posted on this page at any time. Continued use after the revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Suspension or Restriction

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms or abuses the service. That action may be taken at the operators' discretion and without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000, is the applicable public-records framework for requests concerning reasonably described identifiable nonexempt records. Under Government Code §7922.530, those records are subject to prompt availability rules, while §7922.535 gives an agency ten days to make a determination and permits a written extension of up to fourteen additional days in unusual circumstances. A determination deadline is not a promise that production will be complete by that date. The CPRA does not require a custodian to create a new list or answer a research question. Where personal-data rights are relevant, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq., may apply subject to its exceptions.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the extent required, and the remaining terms will continue in effect.
